 COPIES & FAKES
On occasion, CAP insignia are replicated or reproduced in tribute to their historical significance. When collecting non-original copies, it is crucial that each piece is clearly identified and labeled as such to prevent possible misrepresentation. Collectors are urged to NOT purchase counterfeit insignia intentionally being passed off as authentic by unscrupulous sellers.

Maroon Epaulette Circlets: Barry Board Beginnings
For a very brief period during 1990, these small insignia were added to the Air Force service coat epaulettes above the metal rank insignia already being worn. The circlets were then quickly replaced by the infamous maroon epaulette sleeves, available with or without Velcro. There is very little official documentation about them, except for instructions from the National CAP Bookstore.
