| Red Epaulettes: The original CAP shoulder mark
Made of various materials, from heavy cloth to thin wool felt, these
easily identifiable epaulettes replaced the standard ones on the Army
(AAC/AAF) uniforms worn by CAP personnel during the 1940s.
Shirts, jackets, and coats would have the wide end stitched into the
shoulder seam, and the narrow end stitched or buttoned at the base
of the collar. Metal rank insignia was sometimes added.

| Maroon Epaulette Circlets: Barry Board Beginnings
For a very brief period during 1990, these small insignia were
added to the Air Force service coat epaulettes above the metal
rank insignia already being worn. The circlets were then quickly
replaced by the infamous maroon epaulette sleeves, available with
or without Velcro. There is very little official documentation about
them, except for instructions from the National CAP Bookstore.
