History of the Patch

PA-259
Wyoming [Valley] Composite Squadron 209
Version 1

The Squadron 209 patch was designed in 1999 by Shawn Stanford, and contains two main elements...

  • Wyvern - A wyvern is a type of dragon, which symbolizes strength and bravery, the wings also implies speed. The wyvern was chosen because of the alliterative tie-in to the squadron name: WYoming Valley = WYVern. The wyvern's eye is rescue orange to show that he is always watching for emergencies. His foot is atop the keystone to show that his reach covers the entire state.

  • Keystone - Symbolic of Pennsylvania, it is bordered in orange symbolizing Pennsylvania Wing's long and distinguished involvement as a cornerstone of Search and Rescue.
