History of the Patch

Dragon Wing
flight suit and fatigues pocket patch
Version 1a, late 1960s variation

"The original Dragon Wing patch design was a result of a contest held around 1966 by then New Jersey Wing Commander, Colonel Nanette Moss Spears. With her ever-present cigarette holder, Colonel Spears resembled a character from Milton Canif's Terry and the Pirates and was dubbed the 'Dragon Lady' by some. The patch was worn on flight suits and fatigues predominately through the late-60s and early-70s, however members have been seen wearing it almost four decades after its conception."
