History of the Patch
NC-??? | Hendersonville Composite Squadron Version 1, 1983 (submitted by 2d Lt Joseph Myers) |

Hendersonville Composite Squadron was activated in North Carolina Wing under General Order #18, dated 1954. The squadron was based at the Hendersonville Airport before being deactivated in the late 1990s, or just prior to 2001.
Hendersonville Composite Squadron obtained permission to use the name "The Black Sheep" directly from Colonel Gregory 'Pappy' Boyington, USMC (1912-1988). The original artwork shown here was approved as the squadron's patch in March 1983, according to a newsletter preserved in the Asheville Composite Squadron archives.
